Chemical Testing for Domestic Wells

TOP 20, Top 30, and Top 40 Chemical Test Packages

History of the Top 20We first opened the lab in 1981 and in those days there were a lot of "crooked and dishonest" water treatment companies preying on homeowners offering free water tests.  They would pull out their test kits, do some on the spot quick chemical tests that changed pretty colors and convinced the homeowner they had bad water.  They would sell them thousands of dollars worth of water treatment equipment, a lot of which was very very poor quality.  Many homeowners bought equipment they did not even need and others ended up with inferior products with no service after the sale.  It was a total sham.

Our clients wanted to know what was in their drinking water and needed an economical test package that looked for the chemicals found in our area.  Neilson Research Corporation was tired of seeing our customers getting ripped off and wanted to put an end to this fraudulent practice.  So we looked at the EPA list of chemicals for Public Water Systems and compared that data to our own in-house data for Southern Oregon and Northern California and developed what was first tailor-made testing package for our area.

From that study came the first test package called the Top 10.  As a way to give back to our community, Neilson Research elected to offer the package at our cost.  Now our clients had a chance for an independent analysis of their water and with hours and hours of free consultation, we educated thousands of homeowners on what they really needed.  The "crooked and dishonest" companies hated us and the reputable pump companies of Southern Oregon and Northern California loved us.  Soon we changed it to the Top 12 and in December 1995 we introduced the Top 15 Drinking Water Contaminants package.

Changes in scientific technology allowed us to invest in new analytical equipment with lower detection limits.  We went back and reviewed over 16 years of local analytical data, and in June 1997 Neilson Research Corporation developed a new test package specifically designed for Home Owners, Renters, and Rental Property Managers that includes the most commonly found contaminants in drinking water sources all over Southern Oregon and Northern California.  This package is the Top 20 Contaminants.

The Top 20 is the most commonly requested test package for individuals purchasing a home with a well.   Pump and water treatment companies use Neilson Research Corporation's Top 20 test results to make recommendations and treat the variety of water problems that occur in our area.  Today some of the best water treatment companies in the state are located right here in Southern Oregon.

In response to requests from from our clients, who are more concerned today about the quality of water they drink, Neilson Research introduced in September, 2005 the Top 30 and in October, 2005 the Top 40 Drinking Water Analysis.
